6 weeks old!

I got to Kangaroo Care my boys for the first time today and they both LOVED it! Addison was at 30% oxygen when I started to hold him and shortly after being put back into the isolette, he was down to 23% oxygen and still sating 98-100. He slept the whole time he was in my arms. Riley was very receptive to being held. He opened his eyes every time I talked to him and he looked like he had a million little thoughts running through his head.

They didn't have any apnea or brady (slowing of the heart rate) episodes today. Riley had his feedings increased to 19cc. Riley is down to a +4 on the cpap. The next step down will most likely be a high flow nasal cannula. A high flow still heats and humidifies the oxygen whereas the regular cannula is just straight oxygen. Addison is still at the +6.

They have their eye exams scheduled for the 31st. We were told to expect the opthamalogist to say they had premature retinas and to follow up in a week and then to expect a few more follow ups. I hope they don't discover anything urgent or serious.

Today my moms neighbor gifted the boys with blankets that were donated through Project Linus. It's a charity that makes and distributes blanket to traumatized or seriously ill children. If you're able to sew or crochet blankets, you should check out their link over in the column on the right. Their blankets are beautiful and are too big to be in the isolette so they've become their isolette covers for now.

What a great update!

I have a project linus blanket that came with CeeCee in foster care--it's a fleece blanket with a knit (or crocheted) border. So not even too hard to do!
